Conversations in Form
On a recent afternoon in Madrid, Arturo Berned sat down with two leading voices in the world of art—Alfonso de la Torre, esteemed art critic, theorist and independent curator specialising in contemporary Spanish art, and Manuel Fontán del Junco, PhD in Philosophy, writer, and director of museums and exhibitions at the Juan March Foundation and the Museum of Spanish Abstract Art in Cuenca —for a conversation that will form the basis of a new text in Arturo’s forthcoming book.
The exchange took place in Berned’s studio, surrounded by his works in progress and completed sculptures. It was a profound exploration of Berned’s practice, influences, and the evolving dialogue between sculpture, architecture, and space. With Fontán del Junco’s scholarly insight into 20th-century art and de la Torre’s deep understanding of contemporary Spanish artists, the conversation offered both reflection and revelation.
This meeting marks a significant step in the development of a new publication that delves into the conceptual and formal foundations of Arturo Berned’s sculptural language.
