ARTWORK ON PAPER
There is nothing more orderly than water at rest… yet nothing more chaotic when it moves. My aim is to reveal the rhythm hidden within this chaos, through logarithmic spirals, golden proportions, translations and turns, until a new balance is reached on the page.
In light of the year’s end, when the cold air and festive lights shape the streets, we wanted to share a different body of work born from the quiet aftermath of snowstorms. Arturo Berned turns to paper as his medium, drawing from nature’s tension between order and chaos. These pieces, titled Siroco, Ostro and Lebeche, reflect a dialogue between stillness and movement, precision and spontaneity.
The process begins with hand-drawn geometric compositions of ellipses, spirals and squares that distil the rhythm of falling snow and flowing water. These drawings are used to engrave an aluminium plate which is pressed onto handmade paper, embossing its surface with intricate reliefs. A final layer of screen printing in varied colourways is applied, bringing the work to life, shifting subtly with light and perspective as texture, light and shadow interact.
