The event was organised by Alfredo Martinez, Ambassador of Spain to Canada along with local Newfoundland authorities. The ceremony was held in St. John’s, Newfoundalnd, Canada. The artwork was donated by the Spanish Chamber of Commerce in Canada in coordination with the Embassy of Spain.
Arturo Berned designed this sculpture representing the ¨two shores¨ of the Atlantic that, united, converse; the separation and the tear but also the reunion in a place where the plains meet. It represents a homage to our missing sailors, buried in the Northern Atlantic. It’s powerful and very beautiful, and it will change the memory and remembrance of our sailors in Newfoundland.
